Editorial note
A maze offers a way through space while also regulating movement. In Maze Runner, porous rings both enclose and provide passages for pink, insect-like bodies. A folded organic form occupies the centre, while smaller figures extend beyond the circular structure. Together they suggest an arrangement that resists a single body or a fixed hierarchy. Read this way, the work presents the body as a meeting place for desire, vulnerability and the possibility of escape.
The artist’s practice
Martch Art Project describes Dönmez’s ceramic-based practice through body politics and gender. Her fragmented, hybrid and transforming organic forms question the cultural meanings assigned to bodies, drawing on feminist and queer thought.
