The artist’s approach

In her 2019 interview about Yeni Bir Günün Anısı, Büyükkan connects geometric pits with human thought and intervention in nature. As nature repairs its wounds, multiplying, irregular cavities evoke construction foundations. She does not describe these landscapes as a world after an apocalypse.

Editorial reading

The angular voids here can therefore suggest an intervention still underway. Vegetation covers the terrain, but the cuts remain visible. The tension lies in repair and renewed damage occurring together, rather than life simply beginning again. The title’s “new day” leaves the promise of a clean beginning unresolved.

In detail.
