About the artist
Şeniz Polat (b. 1988, Istanbul) completed her BA in 2012 and MA in 2018 in the Painting Department at Hacettepe University. Her practice explores domestic life, family relationships and everyday routines. Working across drawing, collage, sculpture, assemblage, video and photography, she considers how personal experience relates to a wider social context.
In her Sectional Bodies series, developed since 2018, she focuses on the body language of family members and the ways they occupy shared spaces. Coloured, translucent materials and cropped bodies alter how domestic relationships become visible in her charcoal drawings. Her first solo exhibition, Zone Defence (Alan Savunması), took place at Büyükdere35 in 2021.
